Okay! This has Lotsa promise! ! #wilton

This is a great way to make tye-died icing- give grass or fur extra depth. It is quite simple—and nearly fool proof.
This looks pretty in rainbow colors or monochromatic shades. Just make sure the colors are different enough so they don’t turn into a muted solid.
Let’s Go!!
Supplies:
Icing Colors tinted as desired 2 - 4 colors (don’t forget: colors that touch will blend-yellow next to blue = green, the smaller icing tip you are going to use the fewer colors you should use)
Saran Wrap (not cling wrap! That stuff is TOO sticky!)
Pastry bag (disposable or cloth)
Offset spatula
Coupler
Tip for desired piping technique
1. Mix up your colors.
2. Lay out supplies
3. Lay about 18 inches of saran wrap on the counter
4. Place a dollop/log (about 1/3 cup) of the first color down, you want to make it longer and slender
5. Place another dollop/ log next to it
6. Place the final color on top
7. Roll the saran wrap into a log
8. Tie one end of the saran wrap very close to the icing (this will help it from shooting out the back of the bag)
9. Tie the other end, but this time a few inches down (you need this part to feed through your coupler and be able to cut it off)
10. Cut your bag and place the coupler inside.
11. Place the saran wrapped icing log in the bag and pull the saran wrap through the coupler.
12. Cut off at the edge of the coupler- you do not want any saran wrap to clog up your tip
13. Add your tip and coupler ring.
14. Go to town! When piping with three colors for a border I like to rotate the bag about an 1/8 of a turn so I can see all the colors.

15. Clean up is a snap!
Just undo the tip and coupler ring and pull the saran wrap out the large end of the bag. Almost no clean up!!

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

What better way to celebrate than with a Piñata cake?!?!
How do you make one?

I am sorry, when I took photos I wasn’t thinking about a tutorial so I missed a few things, but I am sure you will all be able to understand enough to experiment!
This is from about 5 years ago. But I would basically do things the same way.
Supplies:
Tips. Wilton #47 (small basket weave)
Buttercream
Colors of choice
1-inch dowel
Screws
Washers
1/2 inch foam core
1/4 inch foam core
Rice krispy treats
Plunger measuring cup (2 cup size)
Styrofoam
Bubble tea straws
Skewers
1/4 dowel
Rasp
Step 1:
Decide how many servings you need. I needed 50 So I made a 2 layer 9X13 cake. This is going to be the body of the piñata. I iced and crumb coated on 1/4 inch foam core, 9x 13.
Cut a 1/2 foam core board (make sure its thick if you use cardboard) to 9x13.
Step 2:
Glue Styrofoam (with Styrofoam glue) together and carve basic shape (using a rasp) for head. I used cones and trimmed them down for the ears, the foam rectangles were cheaper and closer in size and I used excess to make the nose. Ears, and nose were glued and skewered for extra stability.

Cut dowels into “legs.” Using my dad’s chop saw made quick and accurate work of this.
I predrilled the dowels for the screws so it wouldn’t split. keeping in mind the diameter of the legs, attach the 1/2 board to the wooden legs, using a washer so it does not punch through the foam core. Cover the cake board and then attach the support to the board. Make sure your board is strong! I used 1/2 foam core and really pushed it….should have put some masonite under it.

Place the iced cake on the support (I glue this down!). Cut bubble tea straws for head support.
Step 3:
Make the rice krispy treats. I used my pampered chef kitchen plunger. Spray with Pam cooking spray and then drop in the RKT Smoosh the plunger and voila! a leg Let cool alil and then cut in half and shape around the dowel. Shape legs and add RKT as needed.

Step 4:
Place head on cake and using bubble tea straws for support. Then stick a 1/4 inch dowel to support and anchor. Crumb coat cake.

Step 5:
Decorate!
I used the smooth side of tip #47 to do the black hooves. Then I used the jagged side to make the individual “tissues”. slowly around the cake, pulling out to make it look kinda fluffy. I actually think tip 48 might have worked better.. oh well. I used a ruler to mark my crumb coat into sections. (The insides of the legs are a PITA) Add eyes, nostrils and mouth. I used 5 different colors of curling ribbon and attached it to a skewer for the tail.

“Stick” is left over 1 inch dowel covered like cake.

Tada!
I hope this helps! If you have questions just let me know
For the record this was a Chocolate cayenne and cinnamon cake with a dulce de leche bc filling:)
